Acorn A3000 Technical Reference Manual

From RetroTechCollection

The A3000 Technical Reference Manual is Acorn Computers' hardware reference for the Acorn Archimedes A3000, part number 0480,055, Issue 2, ISBN 1 85250 074 3, published in September 1989 by Acorn Computers Technical Publications Department. The hosted scan has 38 pages; the text chapters have a searchable text layer, the parts lists and drawings are images.

Acorn wrote it for "system integrators, software developers and those developing expansion cards for the A3000 computer", as a supplement to the A3000 Welcome Guide. It describes machines with Issue 1 PCBs and lists the differences from Issue A boards (p. 4).

  • Drawings: final assembly, User Port/MIDI circuit diagram, internal upgrade, external expansion fixing, dimensions and weight; the main PCB circuit diagram and top and bottom assembly drawings are listed as bound separately

What is in the scan

[edit | edit source]
  • The parts lists (PDF pp. 29-32) give item, description and quantity for every designator, including capacitor values and voltage ratings, but no Acorn part numbers. The Acorn A3000 Service Manual prints the same lists with part numbers.
  • Three of the drawings: dimensions and weight (PDF p. 33: 486 × 325 × 70 mm including feet, 3.6 kg), the internal upgrade drawing (p. 35) and the external expansion fixing drawing (p. 37).

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • The final assembly drawing, the User Port/MIDI circuit diagram and the separately bound main PCB drawings are not in the scan. The main PCB circuit diagram is hosted as sheet 1 and sheet 2.
  • No fault diagnosis, test procedures or disassembly sequence. Those are in the Acorn A3000 Service Manual, which shares this manual's system description.
  • No component-level data for the power supply, which is one item in the final assembly list.
  • Nothing on the A3010, A3020, A4000 or A5000.
