Amstrad CPC 6128 Service Manual
The CPC6128 Micro Computer / CTM644 Colour Monitor / GT65 Green Monitor Service Manual is Amstrad Consumer Electronics plc's service manual for the CPC 6128 and its two monitors. The contents list runs to page 37 plus a back-page specification; the scan has 31 PDF pages and no text layer. The cover price was £8.00. Its layout follows the CPC 664 manual page for page.

What it covers
[edit | edit source]The electrical parts list on page 21 gives value, circuit reference and Amstrad part number for every resistor, capacitor, IC, transistor and diode on the CPC 6128 main board. It names the Z8400APS CPU (IC111), the HSG3130/3170 gate array (IC116), a PAL16L8AC (IC118), sixteen MSM3764-20RS DRAMs (IC119–134), the µPD765AC-2 disc controller (IC201), the FDC9216BT data separator (IC202) and the EME-155 drive (FDD201). As in the 664 manual, no part numbers are given for the drive's own board, PCB30001, which was to be returned with the mechanism for replacement; the disc control circuit diagram (pp. 35–36) is the schematic of that board, with values and test voltages. The GT65 and CTM644 sections carry their own parts lists, alignment instructions and voltage charts.
The back-page specification gives the Z80A at 4 MHz, 128K of RAM in two 64K banks (over 41K available in BASIC, 61K TPA under CP/M Plus) and 48K of ROM holding BASIC, the operating system and the disc extensions. It prints the disc controller as "7653"; the parts list shows it is the µPD765AC-2. The 3-inch drive follows the Hitachi/Panasonic standard, with the software set for a 12 ms step rate and 30 ms settling time, and the system controls at most two drives. The keyboard unit measures 510 × 48 × 170 mm and weighs 2.0 kg.
The power entries are the ones to read before any repair: "Screen System: 240V AC 50Hz (keyboard and disc drive power supplied by screen system)", a 5 mm socket for the 5 V supply "supplied exclusively from monitor", and a 5 mm plug and lead to the monitor's 12 V disc supply socket. The safety test on page 2 is a 3 kV flash test and an insulation test requiring at least 4 MΩ.
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- Part numbers for the drive's own board (PCB30001); its values are on the schematic only.
- Later main board versions. The amendment manual has two later CPC6128 sections.
- The CPC 464, 664 or the 6128 Plus. For the Plus see Amstrad 464 Plus / 6128 Plus / GX4000 Service Manual.
- A text layer.
