What it settles

[edit | edit source]

Apple treats each drive as three modules: the top case, the CD-ROM drive assembly and the enclosure with its power supply.[3] The symptom charts reflect that: a green power light that is off is cured by replacing the drive assembly, and most other faults by the drive assembly and then the enclosure with power supply. A tray that will not open can be released with a paper clip in the hole next to the eject button. For a Macintosh that cannot mount the drive, the first step is to make sure the tray is closed. A CD Plus (CD+) disc that causes a stuttering sound and may not mount calls for a replacement CD-ROM drive.[4]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

The Take Apart chapter has three procedures, and the drive assembly is replaced as a unit. There are no part numbers, no schematic, no component values, no laser or tracking adjustment and no fuse procedure.[1]
