Atari 520ST and 1040ST Computer Field Service Manual

From RetroTechCollection

The 520ST/1040ST Computer Field Service Manual is Atari Corporation's service manual for the Atari 520ST, Atari 520STM, Atari 1040STF and Atari 1040STFM, part number C026118-002, Revision B (3.6), dated January 1987. The hosted file is a 69-page scan of a copy supplied by Mauritron Technical Services of Chinnor, Oxfordshire, whose cover sheet and notice occupy the first two PDF pages. It has no text layer.

The manual's own contents page (PDF page 4) lists nine sections. PDF page numbers are given so that citations can point at the scan.

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • There is no main board schematic. Section 8 of the scan holds only the power supply drawing, the keyboard sheet, the block diagram and the clock diagram. Atari's 520ST/260ST board schematic, drawing C070231, is hosted separately as File:Atari 520ST Schematic C070231.pdf.
  • Page 3 of the parts list is missing. Only a clipped fragment of it shows at the edge of PDF page 64, so the integrated circuits and their part numbers are not listed. The list that is present is for the NTSC 1040STFM board.
  • There are no assembly drawings or silkscreens, although the section headings name them.
  • Sections 5 and 6 refer readers to a separate Diagnostic Cartridge Troubleshooting Guide for detail; that guide is not included.
  • No coverage of the 520STFM (released December 1986), the Mega ST or the STE range. For the STE see Atari 520STE/1040STE Field Service Manual.
