Atari Stacy Schematics and Drawing Package

From RetroTechCollection

The Atari Stacy schematics and drawing package is a set of Atari Corporation engineering drawings for the Atari Stacy, which the drawings call the LST. The drawings are dated between December 1988 and February 1990. The hosted file has 49 PDF pages. Most of the large drawing sheets were scanned in two halves, so one sheet usually occupies two consecutive PDF pages. There is no text layer.

The main-board bill of material lists nine electrolytic capacitors, all rated 16 V: C3 10 µF, C14 and C15 47 µF, C17 and C29 100 µF, C31 100 µF, C56 10 µF, C60 220 µF and C61 2200 µF. Its 41 0.1 µF ceramic decoupling capacitors are listed on the same sheet.

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • No service text: no theory of operation, test procedures, symptom charts or disassembly instructions.
  • Sheet 1 of each bill of material, and sheet 9 of the main-board list, are not in the scan.
  • Only the 4 MB (LST-4) sub board is covered. The sub boards of 1 MB and 2 MB machines are not.
  • The DC-DC converter appears as Atari drawing C101780 (schematic and outline) with no parts list, so its capacitors are known only from the values printed on the schematic.
  • Nothing on the mains adaptor.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • The Stacy's clock cell is a 3 V 560 mAh lithium primary cell (C103655-001) at location LB, not a NiCd pack.
  • The backlight is electroluminescent, driven at 85 V, 590 Hz by the DC-DC converter.
  • The converter's specified input range is 11–18 V DC.
  • The custom chips on the main board are socketed (GLUE and MMU in 68-pin PLCC sockets, Shifter and DMA in 40-pin sockets, the Shadow LCD controller in an 84-pin PLCC socket); the DRAMs on the 4 MB sub board are not.
