Commodore 64 Service Manual (1985 Sep)

From RetroTechCollection

The Service Manual, Model C64 Computer (September 1985, PN-314001-02) is Commodore Business Machines' service manual for the Commodore 64, covering board assemblies 326298-01, 250407-04 and 250425-01. It has the same part number, contents list and assemblies as the March 1985 edition; see that page for the contents with page numbers.

The 51-page scan has a text layer on every page, including the schematics and pin assignments, which makes it the searchable copy of the 1985 manual. Its pages are out of order: printed pages 12 to 19 (the keyboard, joystick and paddle circuit theory, serial interface and user port, troubleshooting guide, board identification and the first 326298 parts list page) come at the end of the scan, from PDF page 43. The document change and registration forms are not in this scan.

What this manual settles

[edit | edit source]
  • The same component values as the March edition for the three assemblies.
  • Page 12, keyboard, joystick and paddle interfaces: CIA 1 port A reads control port 2 and port B reads control port 1; the paddles reach the SID through the 4066 at U28 when its enable inputs are high; and Commodore's warning that the U1 port assignments printed on the schematics are incorrect, with the keyboard matrix drawing giving the correct ones. The Commodore 64 Troubleshooting Guide cites it.

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • The B-3 (250466) and E (250469) boards and the Commodore 64C; see the 1992 edition. The B-2 (250441) is listed on the board identification page only.
  • The external power supply.
