Summary

[edit | edit source]

Diagram titled "IBM 5160 - Breakdown of 201 RAM Subsystem error", working through the example 30000 4C 201: the address indicator 30000 hex is 196608 decimal, or 192 KB, and the bit indicator 4C hex (01001100 binary) means data bits 6, 3 and 2. Notes on the diagram say a bit indicator of 00 means the parity bit, that the author saw 0C000 00 201 after putting a 4164 chip into bank 0 of a 256-640KB board, and that many failing bits often means non-existent RAM was tested.
