Summary

[edit | edit source]

Minuszerodegrees.net's cabling diagram for a single hard drive on the Fixed Disk and Diskette Drive Adapter that IBM supplied in the IBM 5170, using a twisted control cable: the 20-pin data cable from J4 and the 34-pin control cable from J5 on the adapter, pin 1 of each cable connector to pin 1 of the drive connector, a terminator fitted on the drive, and the drive-select jumper in the second position (DS1 on a drive numbered DS0 to DS3, DS2 on a drive numbered DS1 to DS4). Notes on the diagram say the drive's own LED staying on after the first access is normal with this controller, and that the hard drive twisted cable differs from the floppy one.
