Machine Code Games Routines for the Commodore 64
Machine Code Games Routines for the Commodore 64: Essential Routines for Game Design is a book by Paul Roper, published in London by Sunshine Books (an imprint of Scot Press) in 1984; the hosted scan is the 1984 reprint. ISBN 0-946408-47-5.[1] The text ends with the index of routines on p. 169; the publisher's advertisements that follow are numbered to p. 175.[2]
The first half is about method: more 6510 theory, planning a game with top-down charts, coding, writing new routines from an algorithm, testing and debugging, and connecting routines into a game. The second half is a library of Commodore 64 machine code routines for games: screen filling and scrolling, delays, explosions, interrupts, sprites, user-defined graphics, sound, random numbers and non-linear motion. The appendices give utility programs including UDG and sprite editors, a BASIC mini-assembler and disassembler, notes on the keyboard buffer, CIAs, SID and VIC-II, and a complete game, Laserbike.[3]
