What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The I/O processors are "two 6502 processors and 64K static RAM" managing the serial ports, ADB and floppy drives (p. 13). Apple's Technical Note HW 9 calls them custom ASICs and gives no core type.
- The supply's DC rating: 132 W maximum, with +5 V 18.0 A, +12 V 2.5 A and -12 V 1.0 A (p. 15). The Service Source gives only the 230 W mains figure.
- The power available to NuBus cards: +5 V 12.0 A, +12 V 1.05 A, -12 V 0.600 A in total; ADB devices 500 mA in total (p. 16).
- Memory: 64-pin SIMMs with eight 1 Mbit 80 ns DRAMs; the parity SIMM has nine RAM chips plus a parity chip; parity must be specified when the machine is ordered (pp. 9, 17).
- The processor-direct slot is 120-pin and sits in front of the far-right NuBus slot, which cannot be used when the PDS is occupied (pp. 6-8).
- The fan is variable-speed and runs faster when more cards are installed (p. 2).
- Environment: operating 10-35 °C, storage -40 to 47 °C, 5-95 % relative humidity, 0-3,048 m (p. 21).
- Weight 11.8 kg (26 lb), varying with the drives (p. 17). Apple's Service Source prints 24 lb (10.9 kg).
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]It has no repair, disassembly or troubleshooting content, no board-level information and nothing on SCSI termination; the SCSI section is a pinout (p. 20). It tells owners that memory should be installed only by an Apple service provider and gives no SIMM installation steps (p. 17). The battery appears only as the "long-life lithium battery" of the clock chip (p. 15). For service procedures see Macintosh II/IIx/IIfx Service Source; for the I/O processor programming changes see Apple Technical Note HW 9 Macintosh IIfx The Inside Story.
