Psion Series 5 Service Manual

From RetroTechCollection

The Psion Series 5 Service Manual is Psion Computers PLC's service manual for the Psion Series 5, dated November 1997 (the cover also carries the date August 1997). It is a 46-page PDF, marked "Company Confidential", which Psion distributed to its service centres through a closed website rather than in print.[1]

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]

The manual has no schematic with component values, no capacitor list and no board-level parts list; the exploded views and spares lists stop at assemblies, in line with Psion's recommendation to repair at circuit-board level.[1] It predates the Psion Series 5mx (1999) and does not mention it. The 5mx has a similar case but a different processor, main board, screen and screen cable, so the mechanical procedures are a guide for the 5mx but the part numbers and electrical figures are not.[2][3]

The test lead and dummy battery in the connector diagram are labelled "PROTEA_TEST_LEAD" and "DUMMY PROTEA BATTERY".[1]
