Getting started

The main rules in brief

  • Copyrighted material, including complete manuals, schematics and photographs, may be used and uploaded as long as it is cited: the file page and the article give the source, the author or publisher, and the copyright holder. Copyright holders can ask for material to be removed. See RetroTechCollection:Copyrights.
  • Every checkable figure needs a citation. Your own bench measurements, photographs and repair findings are welcome when they are labelled as your own.
  • Pages whose procedures involve mains or CRT voltages carry a plain hazard statement that links the safety pages.
  • Edits by users who are not logged in, and by new accounts, are held for review by a moderator before they appear.

Changing a policy

Propose new policies, or changes to existing ones, on the Village Pump or the forum. The administrators make the change once it has been discussed. Major changes to the Terms of Use are announced on the Main Page.

Enforcement

Most problems are fixed by editing: adding a missing citation, correcting a figure, or asking the contributor. Warnings and blocks follow section 7 of the Terms of Use and the Blocking policy.

Contact and feedback

For questions about policies and guidelines:

  • use the RetroTechCollection forum for general policy discussion
  • contact an administrator for an urgent interpretation of a policy
  • propose new policies or changes on the forum or the Village Pump
