RetroTechCollection:Verification drive

From RetroTechCollection

A wiki-wide verification drive is under way.

An audit of every content page on this wiki found that many repair pages gave component values, voltages and measurements with no source. Spot checks against manufacturer service manuals and established references found real errors, including wrong capacitance values and capacitor voltage ratings below the rail they sit on.

Pages that have not yet been checked carry {{Unverified data}}. 0 pages still carry it.

What is being done

[edit source]

Every page is being worked through in turn. For each one:

  1. Every component value, voltage, measurement and part number is checked against a service manual, schematic or established reference.
  2. Wrong values are corrected.
  3. Values that cannot be verified are removed. An omission is safer than a plausible invention.
  4. Each figure gets a citation naming what the source supports.
  5. The warning is removed only once the whole page is verified.

A second pass is checking every page again for missing citations, gaps in coverage, missing images and the quality of the writing.

What readers should do

[edit source]
  • Check any component value against your own board and against a schematic before ordering parts.
  • On any page still carrying the notice, treat procedures and symptom descriptions as a guide, not as verified fact.
  • If you find an error, please report it on the page's talk page or the forum. Corrections are welcome.

Progress
