The Amstrad DMP3000 is a 9-pin impact dot-matrix printer from Amstrad, a later model than the Amstrad DMP2000. It prints at 105 characters per second in draft and 26 in near letter quality, adds italics, and was sold as "PC compatible", with IBM character sets selectable alongside the Epson FX sets. Amstrad's user manual is dated 1986, with a second edition in 1987, and also covers the faster DMP3160.[1] Amstrad's combined service manual gives one electrical parts list and one mechanism parts list for the DMP2000 and DMP3000, with separate cabinet parts.[2]

Differences from the DMP2000

[edit | edit source]

The DMP3000 uses a 27256 EPROM at IC8 and a 6264 static RAM at IC10, where the DMP2000 uses a 27128 and a 6116 or 8128; jumpers on the board select the arrangement.[2] Schneider's DMP3000 parts list gives IC8 as a 250 ns 27256 and IC10 as a 150 ns 6264.[3] The top and bottom cabinets, dust cover and rotary knob have their own DMP3000 part numbers; the shield plate is shared.[2]

In the DMP3000 user manual, DIP switches DS1-7 and DS1-8 select the default character set: Epson FX standard, Epson FX NLQ, IBM set 1 or IBM set 2. The combined service manual's table, written for both models, gives DS1-7 as 7- or 8-bit code and DS1-8 as standard or NLQ.[1][2] Use the table that matches the printer's own firmware. The DMP3000 manual also lists pin 14 of the interface as AFD (auto line feed when taken low) and pin 36 as SLCTIN, where the service manual's pin table shows pin 14 as not connected.[1][2]

Repair

The Amstrad DMP3000 Maintenance Guide covers the DMP3000's own parts list, capacitors and fuses; the shared mechanism, ribbon and self-test procedures are on the Amstrad DMP2000 Maintenance Guide.
