The Amstrad PC5386 is an 80386SX model of Amstrad's PC5000 series, known only from a press report and from lists of Amstrad's PCs. In September 1991 Science & Vie Micro reported that a PC 5386 with a 16 MHz 386SX could join the PC5086 and PC5286, but that no launch date had been set.[1] Cliff Lawson of Amstrad lists a "5386" with an 80386SX and VGA graphics.[2] No advert, review, price list, manual or photograph of a PC5386 has been found, so it is not certain that the model went on sale.

Servicing

[edit | edit source]

No source describes the PC5386's hardware. Science & Vie Micro found the PC5086 and PC5286 in the same small case as the Amstrad PC4386SX, and Lawson says Amstrad used PS/2-compatible keyboards and mice from the 5xxx series onwards.[1][2] For a machine badged PC5386, the Amstrad PC5286 Maintenance Guide and the Amstrad PC4386SX Maintenance Guide are the nearest guides. Check each step against the machine itself, since board numbers, link positions and component values may differ.
