• Installation, steps 1–14 (pp. 1–3):
  • remove the hard disk, if fitted, and the top cover;
  • replace the floppy controller at U405 with the Ajax chip;
  • on main boards below Rev B, add a jumper wire on the solder side from U7 pin 32 to UA2 pin 19;
  • replace the PAL at UA2 with C301901-002;
  • fit TOS 2.06 if the ROMs are older;
  • turn on segment 7 of switch S701;
  • set the drive's rear jumpers to 1-2, 5-13 and 14-15 (figure 1);
  • replace the 720 KB drive, which is mounted in the top cover, with the new drive;
  • plug the interface cable into J2 and the power cable into J1 of the new drive. Pin 1 of the interface cable is at the opposite end to the 720 KB drive.

What this manual does not contain

It is an installation sheet only. It gives no theory of operation for the Ajax chip, no schematic, no test procedure beyond the steps above, and no board drawing showing where U405, UA2, U7 or S701 are. The main-board schematic is Atari Mega STE Schematic; sheet 7 annotates S701 segment 7 as the HD-drive enable, and sheet 4 shows the floppy controller at U405.
