Atari STBook Hardware Specification
The ATARI STBook Hardware Specification is Atari Corporation's engineering description of the Atari ST Book, dated 10 September 1992 and marked Atari Corporation Confidential on every page. The hosted scan has 37 pages. It describes the machine as based on an 8 MHz MC68HC000 and "Atari STE compatible (except as described below)".

What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]There is no schematic, parts list, board layout, disassembly procedure or service test; the schematic is a separate document, Atari STBook Schematic. Some figures disagree within the document: the system ROM is 512 KB in the feature list and memory map but 256 KB in the component list; the feature list says six voices of sound where section 2.4 describes three; the current available on the expansion bus is 400 mA in section 6.1.1 and 500 mA in section 6.2; and the LCD bias range is −12 to −17 V in section 10.1 and −12 to −16 V in section 10.2.2.3. The keyboard section describes the HD6301V1 of an ST or Mega keyboard; the ST Book's own keyboard controller, a COP888CG, appears only on the schematic.
What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The supply specifications: VCC and MTR each 5 V ±1% at 1 A, LCD bias 50 mA, regulator input 8 to 20 V, and the SOURCE LOW (8.8 V), SOURCE DEAD (7.2 V) and POWERGOOD (4.55 V) thresholds, used on Atari ST Book Troubleshooting Guide.
- The batteries: an eight-cell NiCd or seven-cell alkaline pack, and rechargeable lithium backup cells good for about 40 hours.
- The Pseudo-ACSI port and its passive conversion to ACSI, and the FDD_DENSE_SEL clock switch.
