What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- It is an owner's manual. It gives no supply voltage limits, FRU part numbers, removal procedures or component data; those are in IBM PC 5150 Hardware Maintenance and Service (August 1981) and IBM Hardware Maintenance Service (March 1986).
- The Diagnostics diskette that Section 4 and Section 6 use is not part of the scan.
- Option installation instructions were supplied with each option for filing in Section 5; none are included here.
What it settles
[edit | edit source]- How to tell the two system boards apart: the 64KB-256KB board has a "B" stamped on the rear panel and "64KB-256KB CPU" printed on the board; the 16KB-64KB board has no rear-panel mark (p. 5-7).
- IBM's SW1 and SW2 settings for every memory total on both boards (pp. 5-8 to 5-50).
- The normal power-on behaviour: one short beep after the memory check, 13 to 90 seconds after power-on depending on the memory fitted (p. 2-7).
