IBM PS2 Models 35SX and 35LS Hardware Maintenance Reference
The IBM PS/2 Models 35SX and 35LS Hardware Maintenance Reference is IBM's service pamphlet for the Personal System/2 Model 35. The front page gives part number 10G6620, form number S84F-9845-02 and the date 17 March 1992; the edition notice says Third Edition (March 1992), copyright 1991 and 1992. The PDF has 54 pages.
The running header of every page reads "IBM PS/2 Model 35 SX, 35 LS, 35 SLC HMR": this edition also covers the 35 SLC. The 35 SX and 35 LS use a 20 MHz 80386SX; the 35 SLC uses the IBM386 SLC with 8 KB of internal cache, also at 20 MHz (topic 1.2.1).
The PDF is a text conversion of IBM's softcopy edition. The 30 illustrations are replaced by "PICTURE" placeholders and pages are numbered within each topic, so cite it by topic number.

Figures a repairer can use
[edit | edit source]- System board (1.0): 20 MHz processor, 128 KB ROM, 80387SX coprocessor socket, 2 MB RAM expandable to 16 MB on the board, 16-bit VGA, and a bus adapter with three 16-bit expansion slots.
- Power supply (1.0, 3.1): 118 W, switching automatically between 100-125 V and 200-240 V AC. There can be a delay of 3 to 5 seconds after power-on before the outputs appear. The green power-good light shows that the supply is working. This pamphlet gives no rail voltages or sense levels.
- Real-time clock module (1035): the module contains a lithium battery and is replaced as a unit, IBM part 8509237. IBM warns against bending its pins or prying it out.
- Specifications (4.0): 360 mm wide, 395 mm deep, 115 mm high; 10.8 kg maximum configuration; heat output 118 W; input 100-125 V or 200-240 V AC.
- Special tools (5.0): a Triplett Model 310 or similar meter and the Tri-Connector wrap plug, IBM part 72X8546.
- Incompatible adapters (2.1): the SDLC Adapter and the 3278/3279 Emulation Adapter cannot be installed together.
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]There is no Symptom-to-FRU Index, no rail voltage table and no parts list; those were in the Model 35 Hardware Maintenance Service pamphlet. The 1994 PS/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual covers the Model 35 in its AT-bus checkout, and gives its supply voltage check (p. 140), system board locations (p. 192) and parts (p. 233). The general safety information is in the separate Hardware Maintenance Reference General Information pamphlet. The removal procedures and location views depend on the missing illustrations. There is no schematic and no component value.
