Nintendo NES Service Bulletins

The Nintendo NES Service Bulletins are three one-page Service Department Bulletins from Nintendo of America, numbers 90354, 91129 and 91205, all classified "Control Deck Repair" and all for the front-loading NES-001 Nintendo Entertainment System. They come from the NES folder of the bulletins on Nintendo's Authorized Service Center CD (folder ASC07022002), the same CD as the Nintendo Authorized Service Center Manual (June 2002), whose NES chapter tells servicers to refer to bulletin 90354.[1][2] The bulletins carry no date; the PDFs were produced from Word documents in February 2001.[1]
Contents
[edit | edit source]| Bulletin | Subject as printed | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| 90354 | Power/Reset Switch (Part No. 25) Enhancement | Inspect the power/reset switch on every Control Deck repair. Type A switches wear and can reset the console during play, which can lose saved data in games such as The Legend of Zelda. Replace type A with type B, C or D, identified by drawings. Charged to the customer, not warranty. |
| 91129 | NES-CPU PCB (Part No. 22667) 06 Version Modification | Traces on the NES-CPU-06 board can touch the upper or lower shield and short. Apply UL-94 V-0 electrical tape at the numbered locations shown: 10 x 19 mm pieces on the component side, a 45 x 19 mm piece on the solder side. Done in or out of warranty, with no claim. |
| 91205 | Video Output Resistor (R2) Enhancement | Control Deck PCB versions 1 to 3 have a 2.2 kΩ video output resistor at R2, which can cause loss of colour or colour wash-out. Replace it with 510 Ω. Charged to the customer, not warranty. |
What these bulletins do not contain
[edit | edit source]- No dates and no photographs. The figures are outline drawings.
- Bulletin 91129 says tape goes on "three locations" but then lists four, and its drawing shows two component-side pieces and one solder-side piece covering locations 1 and 2.
- Bulletin 91205 identifies the affected boards only as "PCB Versions 1 through 3", not by silkscreen.
- Nothing for the top-loading NES-101, which Nintendo's 2002 manual classes as non-repairable.[3]
