Philips CDI 220 Service Manuals

From RetroTechCollection

The Philips CDI 220 service manuals are the five service manuals that Philips Interactive Media Systems, Service & Support, published for the Philips CDI 220 CD-i player, one for each hardware revision. ICDIA distributes them as a single 219-page PDF; here each manual is hosted as its own file, split out of that PDF without other changes.[1] The scans come from freeservicemanuals.info and every page carries its watermark.[1]

The 220/00 manual has seven chapters: manual information, product information, service information, mechanical drawings and parts list, descriptions, electrical drawings and parts lists, and diagnostics, measurements and adjustments.[2] The four later manuals open with a detailed table of contents and follow a common order:[3][4]

  1. Detailed table of contents
  2. Product information: technical specification, connections and controls, setting up and disc play
  3. Service information: safety instructions, handling of SMDs and ESD-sensitive parts, standard resistor code numbers, service tools, and the central repair procedure for the mainboard
  4. Mechanical drawings: exploded views of the cabinet and the loader, with the number of screws at each stage of dismantling
  5. Service software: the front display and keyboard test in the Mono I manual, the low-level test with its error codes, and the service shell
  6. Electrical drawings: block diagram, wiring diagram, list of signal abbreviations, circuit diagrams and PCB layouts for the power supply, display, headphone and main panels
  7. Diagnostics: troubleshooting hints, supply voltage and clock checks, servo, audio and video measurements
  8. Parts lists: cabinet, tray loader, display and power supply panel, mainboard, accessories and service tools

What these manuals do not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • The 220/00 manual gives no parts list for the MMC panel. Philips required a faulty MMC panel to be returned whole.[2] Its other parts lists name only selected components: the power supply list, for example, has no individual electrolytic capacitor values.[5]
  • In the Mono manuals the microprocessor, digital audio, glue logic and digital video sections are marked for central repair; the parts lists still cover the whole mainboard.[6]
  • The Digital Video cartridges (22ER9141 and 22ER9956) are not covered; ICDIA lists a separate service manual for the 22ER9141.[1]
  • The Mono I and Mono II manuals cover the display and power supply panel that goes with the mains transformer; the Mono III and Mono IV manuals include the parts list of the switch-mode supply.[3][4]
