What it settles

[edit | edit source]

The setting-up section (F1) gives the mains and fusing instructions (220–240 V 50 Hz, a 3 A fuse in a 13 A plug), the order of connection (interface into the edge connector marked FLOPPY DISC, drive A on the end of the ribbon cable, the second connector for an FD-1), the rule to switch the drive on before the computer, and the placing advice: at least 20 cm from the monitor, away from magnetic fields, ribbon cable away from mains leads. Section F3 notes that the interface takes 1,280 bytes of memory and that "Press PLAY then any key" means the disc system is not connected or not powered. Sections 2.7 and 5.4 explain each disc error message.

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]

There is no circuit or repair information; that is in the Amstrad DDI-1 / FD-1 Service Manual. As a retyped edition it is not a facsimile, so check any figure that matters against a scan of the printed manual where one is available.
