IBM PC Server HMM (S30H-2501)

From RetroTechCollection

The IBM PC Servers Hardware Maintenance Manual, form number S30H-2501-01, Second Edition (March 1996), is IBM's service supplement for its first PC Server range. The scan has 557 pages and a text layer.

It covers the PC Server 300 (Type 8640), 310 (8639), 320 (8640), 500 (8641), 500 System/390 (8641), 520 (8641) and 720 (8642), and the SCSI Multi-Storage Enclosure (Type 3517) and Enterprise Expansion Enclosure (Type 3518). IBM calls it a supplement, to be used with the advanced diagnostic tests and the IBM Personal System/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual (part number 83G8990, form number S52G-9971), which is hosted as IBM Personal System 2 Hardware Maintenance Manual (S52G-9971-02, October 1994).

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

It is a FRU-level manual: it gives part numbers, locations and symptom-to-FRU indexes, not component values. There is no schematic, and no capacitor or resistor list; capacitors appear only in safety notes. It is not self-contained: the general checkout and common procedures are in the PS/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual named above.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • The PC Server 300 was built with two different system boards, a 486DX2 board and a Pentium board, with separate location diagrams (pp. 25 and 29). Identify the board before using a connector or jumper callout.
  • The PC Server 520 locations are split by model group: EZ models on p. 294, MZ models on p. 301.
