IBM PS2 Model 55 SX Hardware Maintenance Service

From RetroTechCollection

The IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX Hardware Maintenance Service is IBM's service pamphlet for the PS/2 Model 55 SX (8555), part number 91F8637, form number S15F-2195-02, copyright 1991. The hosted copy is a 35-page PDF made in 2009 from IBM's BookManager edition, numbered by topic. Its front page describes it as containing "procedures for isolating problems to a FRU, a Symptom-to-FRU Index, and a parts listing", to be used with the PS/2 Hardware Maintenance Reference (15F2190, S15F-2190-00) and Hardware Maintenance Service (15F2200, S15F-2200-00) manuals; safety information is in the Hardware Maintenance Service General Information manual. The parts list also covers the Model 55 LS front cover.

There are no removal procedures, schematics or component values. The supply and fan are one FRU.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]

IBM's supply check (5.0): power off, remove the supply connectors P7 and P14 from the system board, power on and measure between the pins given. IBM lists each check as a pin pair and a range, without naming the outputs:

Power check, Model 55 SX HMS topic 5.0
Minimum Maximum − lead + lead
+4.8 V +5.2 V P7-5 P7-10
+4.5 V +5.4 V P7-9 P7-5
+11.5 V +12.6 V P7-5 P7-3
+10.8 V +12.9 V P7-4 P7-8
+4.8 V +5.2 V P14-1 P14-3
+4.8 V +5.2 V P14-1 P14-4
+4.8 V +5.2 V P14-2 P14-5

If the voltages are wrong, check the power cord for continuity; if the cord is good, replace the power supply. If the fan is not running, replace the power supply.
