Capacitor work on the Tandy 1000 RLX and RLX/HD follows the procedure on Tandy 1000 RL Capacitor Replacement Guide: check the main board's surface-mount tantalums for shorts and the fanless supply for failed electrolytics. Tandy's 1995 parts lists give the RLX and RLX/HD the same power conversion parts as the RL, including the 150 µF 200 V capacitor C7, so the RL guide's supply section applies.[1][2][3] Catalogue numbers 25-1452 and 25-1453 are the RLX and RLX/HD.[4]

Values from the parts lists

[edit | edit source]

The lists merge every assembly into one, so a reference may belong to the main board, the supply or a drive. Check each value against the part before ordering.[1]

Sources: Tandy bills of materials 250-1452 and 250-1453.[1][2] Both lists also give C20 to C23 (0.022 µF 50 V) the type code ALP, but with a ceramic-style part number; check those on the board. On the RL, a type TNP part, C98, was identified as a tantalum after it shorted and burnt; see the RL guide for the symptoms and the test.[5]

Power supply

[edit | edit source]

The RLX supply is rated at 25 W and has no fan.[4] An RLX/HD owner reads the label inside his supply as -12 V at 0.11 A on pin 1, +12 V at 0.6 A on pin 2, 0 V on pins 3 and 4, and +5 V at 3.3 A on pins 5 and 6.[6] Plasma notes that the -12 V rail is probably used only by the serial port.[6] The steps for replacing the supply's capacitors are on Tandy 1000 RL Capacitor Replacement Guide.

Clock battery

[edit | edit source]

The RLX parts list includes a 3 V CR2032 cell and holder for the DS1215 clock. It is a battery, not a capacitor, but check it for leakage while the board is out.[1]
