What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • Tools (p. 9): T-6, T-8 and T-10 Torx drivers, an IC extractor, a jeweller's flat-blade screwdriver, a No. 00 Phillips screwdriver and the Duo battery contact alignment tool.
  • The logic board has connectors for both an FSTN (passive-matrix) and a TFT (active-matrix) display, and for both a SCSI and an IDE hard drive (p. 10).
  • Power adapter (p. 21): input 100-240 V AC, 50-60 Hz; output 24 V DC, 1.5 A, 36 W. Adapter check (pp. 207-208): 24 to 25 V between the two contacts nearest the plug, dropping no more than 1 to 2 V under load.
  • Battery verification (pp. 204-206): 12 V when charged; recharge below that and replace a battery that stays below 6 V.
  • When to use the battery contact alignment tool (p. 27): whenever a battery contact screw is loosened or replaced, whenever a logic board is fitted, and whenever a known-good battery will not charge or the machine shuts down on battery.
  • Four-tone hardware failure chime (p. 30): first check that the mylar tape on the docking connector is in place.
  • Service part numbers (p. 210): logic board 661-0153, display 661-0233, inverter board 922-1673, Type 3 battery 661-0053, backup battery 922-1418, RAM cards 661-1658 (8 MB) and 661-1067 (12 MB).
