These are the specifications of the Power Macintosh 5260 as Apple printed them in its service manual for the machine, Power Macintosh/Performa 5260, 5280 Series.[1] Where Apple's technical-specification pages for the two models give a different figure, both are shown.[2][3] The Power Macintosh/Performa 5200 and 5300 manual is titled "(not 5260, 5280)", and its figures do not apply to this machine.

Processor and memory

[edit | edit source]
Processor and memory
Item Service manual Specification pages
CPU PowerPC 603e, 100 MHz (5260/100) or 120 MHz (5260/120, 5280) Same; FPU and PMMU integrated
Bus 64-bit PowerPC bus 64-bit data path, 40 MHz
Level-1 cache Not stated 32 KB
Level-2 cache 256 KB 256 KB (5260/100); optional (5260/120)
DRAM 16 MB minimum, expandable to 64 MB; 72-pin SIMMs, 80 ns or faster 16 MB to 64 MB; two slots; 4, 8, 16 or 32 MB SIMMs, fitted singly
Frame buffer 1 MB DRAM on the logic board 1 MB DRAM, built in
ROM 4 MB 4 MB

EveryMac gives 8 MB or 16 MB as the standard RAM of the 5260/100, and the service manual's model overview (p. 4) lists a 16 MB minimum as one of the differences of the 5260/120 from the 5260/100.[4][1]

Disk storage

[edit | edit source]
Disk storage
Item Service manual
Floppy drive 1.4 MB Apple SuperDrive, manual insert
Hard drive 800 MB, 1.2 GB or 1.6 GB IDE
CD-ROM, 5260/100 AppleCD 600i
CD-ROM, 5260/120 and 5280 AppleCD 1200i

Apple's specification pages give a 4× drive for the 5260/100 and 8× for the 5260/120.[2][3]

Display

[edit | edit source]
Built-in display
Item Service manual
Tube 14-inch shadow mask, 12.8-inch viewable image
Dot pitch 0.28 mm
Phosphor Aluminised P22 (red, green, blue)
White point 9,300 K
Shipping brightness 25 foot-lamberts nominal
Vertical frequency 66.7 Hz
Active raster size 9.5 × 7.3 in (240 × 185 mm) nominal
Video mode 640 × 480 at 16-bit colour
Phosphor CIE coordinates Red x = 0.643 ± 0.020, y = 0.324 ± 0.020; green x = 0.301 ± 0.020, y = 0.606 ± 0.020; blue x = 0.142 ± 0.015, y = 0.056 ± 0.015

The 240 × 185 mm raster is also the target of Apple's size adjustments, with a tolerance of ± 2 mm (pp. 194–195).[1]

Monitor timing, 640 × 480 at 66.67 Hz

[edit | edit source]
Timing of the built-in display
Item Horizontal Vertical
Back porch 96 dots 39 lines
Sync 64 dots 3 lines
Front porch 64 dots 3 lines
Rate 35.000 kHz 66.666 Hz
Dot clock 30.24 MHz (33.06878 ns per dot)

The manual prints this table twice, once headed "at 60 Hz" with the same figures, and prints the line period as "28.5714 ms" where 28.5714 µs is meant (pp. 37–38).[1]

Sound

[edit | edit source]
  • 16-bit mono input and 16-bit stereo output; output level nominally 0.5 V RMS into 39 Ω
  • Records at 11 kHz or 22 kHz and plays back at 22 kHz
  • Built-in microphone; sound-input port for microphone or line level, which accepts a stereo signal and mixes it to mono
  • Two stereo output ports (front headphone jack and rear mini jack) and internal stereo speakers; the internal speakers are muted when a plug is inserted into an output jack

Source: pp. 31–32 and 35.[1] Apple's specification pages add an input impedance of 100 kΩ, average line level 100 mV RMS, average microphone level 70 mV RMS and maximum input 1.8 V RMS.[2]

Ports and expansion

[edit | edit source]
  • Two RS-232/422 serial ports (mini DIN-8), LocalTalk supported
  • One external SCSI port (DB-25), up to seven devices
  • One ADB port (mini DIN-4)
  • One 60-pin video-in slot for real-time video display, capture and overlay
  • One 10-pin port for a TV tuner card
  • One 112-pin communications slot (68040-bus configuration) for a modem or Ethernet card
  • One 96/114-pin LC-compatible processor-direct slot
  • External video: DB-15 mirror output through the optional video connector kit, for presentation only
  • Controls: soft power from the keyboard, front-panel buttons for volume and brightness, optional infrared remote
