These are the specifications of the Power Macintosh 6500 as Apple printed them in the Performa/Power Macintosh 6400 and 6500 Series Service Source,[1] with dates and system software from Apple's specification pages and order numbers from EveryMac.
Source: EveryMac.[2][3][4][5] Apple's service manual lists configurations by market, for example the Americas consumer 6500/250 with a 4 GB drive, 24× CD-ROM, 56.6K Apple/GV modem and Mac OS 8.0, and the European version with a Zip drive and 33.6 modem (pp. 8–15).[1]
EveryMac gives model number M3548 for every 6500, and Apple's specification pages give Gestalt ID 513.[2][6]
The 6500 has no RAM on the logic board. The Power Macintosh 6400 takes EDO DIMMs with 1K or 2K refresh to 136 MB and the Performa 6400 takes fast-page DIMMs, so memory from a 6400 is not automatically right for a 6500 (pp. 5, 58–60).[1]
16-bit stereo with SRS 3D Surround Sound; one 3.5 mm line-level output at the rear and one 3.5 mm headphone jack at the front[1]
Audio Input
16-bit stereo; sample rates of 11.025, 22.05 and 44.1 kHz[1]
Speaker
Built-in full-range monophonic speaker, which works as a subwoofer when external speakers are attached. Stereo is only produced through external speakers, headphones or a monitor's own speakers[1]
Microphone support
Apple PlainTalk and third-party microphones. The round Apple Omni microphone and the attenuated RCA adapter shipped with some earlier models are not supported[1]
Ethernet and modems go in the communications slot. Apple lists Ethernet on education configurations, a 56.6K Apple/GV modem on Americas consumer configurations and a 33.6 modem on European ones (pp. 8–15).[1]
Apple notes that weight varies with the hard disk fitted and other options, and excludes the monitor.[1] Apple's specification pages give 16 × 7.8 × 16.9 in and 44.5 lb.[6]
Set the voltage switch for the local supply before the machine is plugged in: "115" for 100–130 V, "230" for 200–270 V (p. 17). The service manual gives no per-rail voltages and no power-supply adjustment.[1]
