Sharp MZ-3500 Service Manual

The Sharp MZ-3500 Service Manual is Sharp Corporation's English-language service manual for the Sharp MZ-3500 series personal computer, code 00ZMZ3500SM/E. It covers the main unit in its four versions (MZ-3530, MZ-3531, MZ-3540 and MZ-3541), the MZ-1K02 to MZ-1K05 keyboards, the MZ-1U02 expansion unit, the MZ-1R03 graphic board and the MZ-1D07 display. The copy on the wiki is a 123-page scan from SharpMZ.net. The scan carries a text layer from optical character recognition, which is unreliable for part numbers and values; read figures from the page images.

The sections a repairer will use most:

• Section 9, the power circuit description, with its block diagram, also hosted as File:Sharp MZ-3500 power supply block diagram (service manual).png.
• Section 11, the self-check tests, with the LED error codes hosted as File:Sharp MZ-3500 self-check LED error codes (service manual).png.
• Section 8-4, the user switch block SW1 under the cabinet and the service switches (A) and (B) on the board.
• The CPU board connector table 13-15 (PDF page 104), which gives the pins of the power supply connector, the LED, HALT, volume and speaker connector and the two CRT sockets.
• The parts guide (PDF pages 109 to 122), with the power supply unit's parts by reference number on pages 7 and 8 (PDF pages 115 and 116).

What this manual does not contain

• Of the circuit diagrams in section 13, the scan has 13-1 (main CPU and memory), 13-2 (sub-CPU), 13-3 (CRT interface), 13-9 (MZ-1R03 graphic board), 13-15 and 13-16 (connector tables for the CPU board and the MFD interface board) and 13-18 (IC pin configurations). Diagrams 13-4 to 13-8, 13-10 to 13-14 and 13-17 are not in it, so there is no power supply schematic and no MFD interface schematic. Section 9 explains the supply with simplified drawings whose labels (Q1, C1, R1 and so on) are not the reference numbers in the parts guide.
• The parts guide jumps from page 8 to page 13. Pages 9 to 12 are not in the scan, and the power supply list stops at R035, so the transformer, fuse and the rest of the supply's parts are not listed.
• The CPU board list gives part types and values but no reference numbers or quantities, and the circuit diagrams print values beside the parts without numbering them.
• Printed pages 13 and 14 of section 3 (the memory relation between the main CPU and the sub-CPU) are bound out of order, as PDF page 103.
• There is no disassembly procedure and no adjustment procedure. Section 9 names an adjusting control for each of the +5 V and +12 V supplies but gives no target voltage.
• The manual does not cover the built-in floppy drive mechanism itself, beyond the interface and the media format.
