The X68000 owner's manual (取扱説明書) is Sharp's 1987 instruction manual for the Personal Workstation Sharp X68000, model CZ-600C, in Japanese. The scan on the wiki has 236 pages, covers included. The cover gives the title as "Personal Workstation X68000 取扱説明書".[1] The manual is in three parts: handling and set-up (part 1), the visual shell (part 2) and more advanced use, starting with the Japanese input front end (part 3), followed by appendices. The sections most useful for repair:
- Rear panel (printed pages 12 and 13): the two I/O slot covers, the REMOTE, PRINTER, STEREOSCOPIC, TV CONTROL, SEE THROUGH COLOR, IMAGE IN, ANALOG RGB OUT, RS-232C, audio, joystick, expansion floppy and hard disk connectors, the frame earth screws, the main power switch, the 100 V inlet, a switched 100 V outlet rated at 300 W maximum, and the DISK EJECT button. With the main switch on, a signal on the REMOTE connector can switch the computer on even when the front switch is off.[3]
- Care and power (printed pages 19 and 20): clean the case with a soft cloth dampened with water or a neutral detergent, never benzine or thinner; beware of condensation; use 100 V AC only; leave at least 10 seconds between switching off and on; do not pull the plug with the machine switched on; switch on at the rear main switch and then the front switch, and off in the reverse order.[4]
- Disc drive precautions (printed page 42): the DISK EJECT button on the rear forces a disc out when a foreign object or a program crash prevents a normal eject, and can damage the disc's contents if used while the drive is working; nothing but discs and the protective sheet should go into the drives; thick or lifting labels can stop a disc ejecting.[5]
- Specifications (printed pages 179 and 180), summarised below.
