Sharp MZ-5500 and MZ-5600 Technical Reference
The Sharp MZ-5500 and MZ-5600 Technical Reference is Volume 2 (Hardware) of Sharp Corporation's internal technical reference for the Sharp MZ-5500 series and the MZ-5600 series, the export version of the Sharp MZ-6500. The copy on the wiki is a 114-page scan with an OCR text layer, from the SharpMZ site (formerly sharpmz.org), which describes it as a Sharp internal document.[1][2]

The parts most used for repair:
- The power supply section, which gives the ratings of the two supply types, the connector pin-outs with wire colours, and Sharp's advice on overcurrent shutdown and the unprotected −12 V line (PDF pages 109 and 110).[3]
- The real-time clock section, which describes the rechargeable backup battery circuit.[1]
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No complete circuit diagrams and no parts lists; it is a hardware reference rather than a service manual.[1]
- No fault-finding procedures. For the MZ-5600, those are in the Sharp MZ-5600 Service Manual; no MZ-5500 service manual has been found.[1]
- The OCR text layer is poor in places, especially in the table of contents.[1]
- The introduction gives the MZ-5511 128 KB of RAM, while the model table in the same section gives it 256 KB.[1]
