Sharp MZ-80K Service Manual
The Sharp MZ-80K Service Manual is Sharp Corporation's English-language service manual for the Sharp MZ-80K personal computer. The cover reads "SHARP SERVICE MANUAL, Personal Computer MZ-80K". The scan has 55 pages and covers the European machine: its specifications give the mains supply as 220 V ±10 % 50 Hz, or 240 V ±10 % 50 Hz for the UK, and it has separate power supply drawings and fault charts for the 220 V unit DBOXD0004PAZZ and the UK unit DBOXD0005PAZZ.[1]
Contents
[edit | edit source]The manual's own contents list (PDF page 2) gives these sections:[1]
| Section | Printed page | PDF page |
|---|---|---|
| Specifications | 1 | 3 |
| Precautions on handling LSIs and ICs | 3 | 5 |
| Trouble shooting guide | 4 | 6 |
| CPU board section | 5 | 7 |
| Power supply section | 12 | 14 |
| Display section | 17 | 19 |
| Cassette tape recorder section | 21 | 23 |
| Keyboard section | 24 | 26 |
| Circuit diagram of MZ-80K | 25 | 27 |
| Replacement parts list | 43 | 45 |
Within those sections:
- Specifications for the whole machine and for the CPU board (DCPU-0006PAZZ), power supply, display (DUTT0004PAZZ) and cassette recorder (KTRC-0004PAZZ), printed pages 1 and 2.[1]
- The trouble shooting guide for each section, with block diagrams, check points and waveforms. The CPU board pages cover the display, cassette and keyboard, audio and clock, and memory blocks, and printed page 10 explains how to use Sharp's RAM checker, which plugs into the monitor ROM socket in place of the monitor ROM.[2]
- Circuit diagrams on printed pages 25 to 42: the CPU board layout and ten CPU board circuit sheets, the power supply layout, the power supply wiring diagram for the 220 V unit (printed page 37) and for the UK unit (printed page 38), and the layout and wiring diagram for the display and for the cassette recorder.[3]
- The replacement parts list, printed pages 43 to 48, with Sharp part numbers for every component of the CPU board, monitor board, power supply, cassette recorder and keyboard, and the cabinet parts.[4]
- Exploded views of the display, power supply, cassette recorder, keyboard and cabinet.[5]
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No written disassembly procedure. The exploded views show how the parts fit together.[5]
- No adjustment procedure for the power supply. The schematic shows a 1 kΩ preset on each output (VR201, VR401 and VR501), but the manual gives no setting-up steps for them.[3]
- No adjustment procedure for the display. The display section is limited to its trouble shooting chart and waveforms. The cassette section has an azimuth adjustment and head cleaning instructions.[2]
- The 100 V Japanese machines, the Sharp MZ-80K2 and the Sharp MZ-80C are not covered.[1]
- The RAM checker is described only by its use. The manual gives no part number or circuit for it.[2]
- The parts list has no entry for C509, a 10 µF 35 V capacitor drawn on the power supply schematic beside C502.[4][3]
- The scan jumps from printed page 48 to printed page 53. Between them is one unnumbered page with the cassette mechanism exploded view and its parts.[5]
