The Macintosh 12" Monochrome Display is a 12-inch grey-scale monitor that Apple sold from December 1990 to October 1993.[1] It was introduced with its colour companion, the 12" RGB Display, as a low-cost display for the Macintosh LC.[2] In February 1993 Apple described it as its most affordable display.[3] The model number on the tag at the back is M1050.[1]

Compatibility

[edit | edit source]

Apple's February 1993 product guide lists built-in support for the display on the Macintosh LC II, LC III, IIvi and IIvx and on the external video port of the PowerBook 160 and 165c, and says the Centris 610 and 650 and the Quadra 800 and 950 support all Apple displays.[3] It runs at 640 × 480 with a 35.0 kHz horizontal rate and a vertical rate of about 66.7 Hz.[4][5]

Hardware

[edit | edit source]

The display has one main board (661-0615), a small video board on the neck of the CRT, and a contrast/brightness assembly that holds the two knobs. Apple has the contrast/brightness board wires (connector BV4) and the LED leads desoldered when those parts are replaced.[6]

Service part numbers (Service Source exploded view)[7]
Part Apple number
Main board 661-0615
CRT assembly 076-0382
Fuse 941-5225
Brightness pot / contrast pot 109-1022 / 109-1020
Bezel / rear cover 658-8351 / 658-8352
CPU-to-monitor cable 590-4510
Power cable 590-0370

Apple's documents give the fuse only by part number, with no rating.[7]

Maintenance and repair

[edit | edit source]

Apple's service manual has no schematic and no component values, and no community capacitor list for this display has been found, so there is no capacitor guide. The CRT keeps a charge after switch-off; follow the CRT Discharge Procedure before working inside.
