The Apple Color Plus 14" Display (M1787) is a low-cost 14-inch colour monitor that Apple sold for the Macintosh. It shows a fixed 640 × 480 picture.[1] The rating label on a surviving example reads "Assembled in Korea", model M1787, 100-120 V 50/60 Hz 1.2 A, manufactured September 1993, with a 1993 Apple copyright line.[2]

The same label gives the operating high voltage as 26 kV at minimum brightness.[2] Treat the anode as charged and read CRT Discharge Procedure before opening the case.

Service

[edit | edit source]

Apple treated the Color Plus 14" Display as a whole-unit exchange module and said that removing the case to attempt internal adjustments voids the warranty. Its Service Source has no take-apart, adjustment or parts information. Before replacing a unit, Apple's technicians were to:

  1. Compare the fault with another Color Plus 14" Display, and carry on only if the condition is not common to these displays.
  2. Rule out external interference.
  3. Check that fluorescent lights or other electrical equipment are not causing the distortion.
  4. Connect the display to a different computer.
  5. Check all ground cable connections.

Apple adds that this is a low-cost monitor whose performance cannot be compared with higher-end models, and that some raster shift and minor geometry problems are normal.[3]

Apple published no schematic, parts list or adjustment procedure for this display. General CRT safety is on CRT Discharge Procedure and general capacitor failure signs on Capacitor Failure Symptoms.
