Philips CDI 450 Documentation
Two documents for the Philips CDI 450 are hosted on the wiki: the Philips service manual for the CDI 450/00, /05, /11 and /17, and the Magnavox operating instructions for the North American CDI450 and CDI550.
Service manual CDI 450/00/05/11/17
[edit | edit source]Compact disc interactive player CDI 450/00/05/11/17 is the service manual published by Philips Service & Support, Interactive Media Systems, in June 1994 (code P.S. 0694), part number 4822 725 24741. Its pages are numbered PCS 72 118 to PCS 72 148. The cover also lists the North American models, the CDI450/17 (CDI450 BK) and the CDI550 (CDI550 DV), with US service manual number 5520.[1] The hosted copy is a 36-page scan from ICDIA, watermarked by freeservicemanuals.info; the larger diagrams are scanned as two- and three-page spreads on one PDF page.[2]

What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No written disassembly procedure. Section 4 is an exploded view and a drawing of the service position only.[4]
- Nothing on the Digital Video Cartridge, which has its own service manual.[1]
- No service information inside the CD mechanism. The CDM12 is replaced as an assembly.[5]
- No component-level repair of the microprocessor, CIAP or digital video sections. Philips's procedure was to exchange the main board and return the faulty one to a central repair shop.[5]
What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The value, voltage and Philips part number of every electrolytic capacitor on the main panel and in the external power supply, and the grid position of each on the main panel.[6][7]
- The power supply circuit, its fuses and its regional part numbers.[7][6]
- The expected supply voltages at each key IC and the clock frequencies, for checks with a meter and a frequency counter.[5]
- How to start the Low Level Test and the Service Shell, and what each test step and CD error code means.[8]

Magnavox CDI450 / CDI550 operating instructions
[edit | edit source]The Magnavox CDI450 / CDI550 Operating Instructions is the 20-page owner's manual for the North American players. Its last page carries the line "©1994 Philips Interactive Media Systems" and the code 3104 125 21041.[9]
