The Philips CDI 360 is a portable Compact Disc Interactive (CD-i) player with a built-in 6-inch colour LCD, stereo speakers and a touchpad controller.[3][4] ICDIA calls it Philips's first all-in-one portable CD-i system and notes that its high-quality Philips LCD made it expensive; the Philips CDI 350 followed as a cheaper model with a Sharp screen.[6] Both were built by Marantz, and both need the 22ER9142 docking station to take the 22ER9141 Digital Video cartridge.[1][6] Philips's service manual for the 360, dated October 1992, is hosted here together with the owner's manual.[3]

The 360 and the 350

[edit | edit source]

The two players share the main panel design (PM06), the dismantling steps, the service software and most of the main board parts. The differences that matter for repair are:[7][8]

The display lid has a removable compartment cover that the owner's manual says doubles as a sun hood in bright light.[4]

Hardware

[edit | edit source]

The service manual's parts list names the main ICs of the MMC section: the SCC68070 processor (IC01), a TC534200F 4 Mbit system ROM (IC03), the MK48T08B-15 Timekeeper (IC04), the IMS66490 CDIC (IC20), two SCC66470 video controllers (IC40, IC42) and an MC68HC05C8 slave processor (IC65). Audio uses an SAA7323GP DAC (IC70) and two NJM386M speaker amplifiers (IC60, IC61); the video encoder is a Sony CXA1145M (ICE1). The front panel and power control processor ICF1 is a µPD75004GB.[2][16][17] retrostuff classes the board with the 350's and 310's as "Mini MMC-based", with 8 KB of NVRAM only, a CDM 9/44 mechanism and multi-region switches already fitted.[18] Philips refers service staff to the CDI 205 circuit description for the theory of operation.[10]

Known faults

[edit | edit source]

No repair reports specific to the 360 were found. Because it shares the 350's board design and parts, the faults retrostuff documented on the 350 apply: a flat Timekeeper, leaking SMD electrolytics, and an open ferrite bead LP05 cutting the +12E supply to the video output stages.[19][20] See the Philips CDI 360 Troubleshooting Guide, the Philips CDI 360 General Maintenance page and the Philips CDI 360 Capacitor Replacement Guide.
