Philips CDI 360 General Maintenance

The Philips CDI 360 comes apart in the same way as its successor, the Philips CDI 350: Philips's two service manuals give the same steps for the top cover, the CD mechanism, the main board PM06, the service position and the CD lid.[1][2] Those steps, with retrostuff's notes from repairing a 350, are written out on the CDI 350 maintenance page. The 360 differs in its LCD unit, AC adapter and fuses, described below. Fault finding is on the Philips CDI 360 Troubleshooting Guide and capacitor values on the Philips CDI 360 Capacitor Replacement Guide.
Safety
[edit | edit source]- Philips marks the AC adapter's primary side as a hot circuit to be worked on only through a separate isolation transformer, as on the 350.[3]
- The CDM-9's laser and photodiodes are sensitive to static: short the CDM flex foil with a paper clip as soon as it is unplugged.[1]
- Philips's instructions are that the LCD screen unit must not be opened and that the surface of the LCD glass must not be touched.[4]
LCD unit
[edit | edit source]Unlike the 350, whose backlight can be changed locally, the 360's LCD screen unit was not to be repaired in the field: Philips's procedure was to send it away for repair.[4][5] The housing can still be taken off to reach or replace the whole unit:[4]
- Take off the top cover and CD lid as on the 350.
- Remove the two screws from the hinges and lift the LCD housing away, minding the flex wire.
- Prise off the side caps 046B (right) and 047B (left) with a screwdriver, remove the two screws on each side of the housing and the two that hold the hinges from behind, and open the housing.
- Lift out the LCD screen unit. Refit in the reverse order.
NVRAM and clock
[edit | edit source]The parts list gives the clock and NVRAM chip as an MK48T08B-15 Timekeeper at IC04.[6] Its replacement, and the clock calibration from step 11 of the low-level test, are the same as on the 350; see the CDI 350 maintenance page.[7]
AC adapter
[edit | edit source]The 360 uses the 22ER9150 adapter, not the 350's 22ER9151. The parts list gives two versions: 22ER9150/00 for 180–265 V and 22ER9150/17 for 85–135 V.[8] Its 14-pin DC plug carries +12 V, +8 V, −8 V, three +5 V pins, a +5 V standby rail, the power on/off line from the player and a voltage-detect line.[9] When testing it on the bench, Philips asks for two 5.1 Ω 10 W load resistors (4822 053 34518) on the +5M and +5F rails and a switch between +5STB and the power on/off line, and warns never to switch on without the load.[10]
The main board's supplies are fused. For the /00, /05 and /11 versions the parts list fits 1 Ω fusible resistors at FP01 and FP02; the /17 has a 1/2 A 125 V fuse at FP01 and a 3/4 A 125 V fuse at FP02.[11]
Care
[edit | edit source]The owner's manual asks for the protection pad to be refitted for transport and says the lens should never be cleaned. Clean the case only with a soft dry cloth, never with solvents such as thinners or alcohol.[12] The compartment cover on the display lid also serves as a sun hood.[13]
