Octane2 Workstation Owner's Guide (007-4207-002)
[edit | edit source]SGI's owner's guide, document number 007-4207-002, written by Alan Stein, copyright 2000 to 2002; 306 pages in the PDF. SGI's own electronic edition with searchable text.[1] SGI describes the Octane2 as designed for maintenance and repair by the user without a trained technician.[1]
Contents: 1 getting started (front and back views pp. 2-3, lifting p. 5, setup, shutdown); 2 CPU and memory (system module removal p. 36, CPU p. 41, memory rules p. 47, DIMM bracket p. 50); 3 power supply (pp. 61-68); 4 PCI boards and module (pp. 69-105, slot numbering p. 79); 5 XIO Tri-Module and option boards (pp. 107-128); 6 external SCSI, serial and audio devices; 7 internal drives, light module (p. 177), frontplane and system identification module (p. 180), system fan (p. 187), plastics (p. 190); 8 troubleshooting: lightbar charts (pp. 200-202), NMI button (p. 203), diagnostics (p. 205), system recovery (p. 207), password jumper (p. 211), system will not power off (p. 215); appendices A compression connectors (pp. 217-220), B technical specifications, VPro port pinouts and scan rates (pp. 237-241) and physical environment (Table B-20, p. 242), C regulatory information.[1]
The guide works at module level. It has no schematics, no component lists and no power supply output specifications, and it does not cover VPro graphics diagnostics.
