No service manual or repair report specific to the Philips CDI 615 has been found. Its user manual has an owner's checklist that covers the floppy drive and group working, and its main board belongs to the large Mono IV family documented in Philips' service manual for the CDI 220/80.[1][2][3] The low-level test items, the error codes and the service shell procedure for that board family are set out in the Philips CDI 660 Troubleshooting Guide.

Floppy copy, delete or format fails See the floppy notes on the Philips CDI 615 General Maintenance page

[1] The tray entry is the same key combination that the CDI 660/670 manual uses to switch its protected mode on and off.[1][4]

Diagnostics

[edit | edit source]
  • Low-level test: Philips' procedure for the Mono IV board is a VT100 terminal on port 2 with the space bar held down at power-on.[3] The 615's manual does not say which of its ports carries the test.[1]
  • Service shell: on most players it starts with pins 2 and 3 of the front input port linked, or Philips' test plug 4822 264 50263 fitted, at power-on.[3] retrostuff.org found the service shell module missing from the 660 and 670 ROM; whether the 615 ROM has it has not been reported.[5]
  • Philips' rule for the Mono IV board: faults in the servo, analogue audio and analogue video sections can be repaired to component level; faults in the processor, CIAP or digital video sections meant a board exchange.[3]

Hardware faults

[edit | edit source]

The faults known on the shared Mono IV hardware, with the checks, are tabulated in the Philips CDI 660 Troubleshooting Guide. In short: no sign of life points to the 20PS307 fuses 1101 (T1.0A) and 1200 or 1201 (MP315);[6] no picture or a rolling one, with the tray opening by itself and the disc motor running on while the low-level test passes, points to the −5 V fuse 3255 in grid square F1;[7] and lost settings or clock point to the cells in the DS1216C NVRAM socket.[8]
