Every version of the Philips CDI 210 has a service manual with a full parts list, so the electrolytic capacitors on the mainboard and the power supply are all known by position, value and voltage rating. The lists differ between the four mainboards, so start from the version number on the type plate. The 210's boards are the same Mono I to Mono IV boards used in the Philips CDI 220, and Philips's 210 and 220 manuals give the same electrolytic capacitors for the same board. The tables below are taken from the 210 manuals. General failure signs are described on Capacitor Failure Symptoms.
The power supply panel works at mains voltage. On the switch-mode supplies of the 210/40 and 210/60, 2103 is a 100 µF 400 V reservoir capacitor.[4][5] Unplug the player, leave the power switch on for a while and check that the large capacitors are discharged before touching the supply.[2] Back up the NVRAM before working on the mainboard; the backup method is on the maintenance guide.
Code 4822 124 22339 (100 µF 16 V) is described as bipolar ("BIP") where the list gives a type, at 2340 and 2360 on the Mono III board.[10] Fit bipolar parts wherever that code appears.
Several positions have no code number: 2808 and 2809 on the Mono I and II power panels, 2306 on Mono III, 2473 on Mono IV, and 2112, 2203, 2205, 2206 and 2212 on the switch-mode supply.[6][10][11][4]
retrostuff found the −5 V protection on Mono III and IV boards to be a Littelfuse TE5 fuse (3274 on Mono III, 3255 on Mono IV), next to the electrolytics near the supply connector; check it while the board is out.[12]
Open the player as described in the maintenance guide and lift the board you are working on.
Photograph each area and note the polarity of every electrolytic before removing it.
Remove and replace one capacitor at a time against the table for your version, with the same capacitance and at least the same voltage rating, and bipolar parts where the list calls for them.
Clean any electrolyte off the board with isopropyl alcohol and check nearby tracks and vias for corrosion.
Before refitting the covers, measure the supply rails: on the 210/00 Philips gives +5 V ±5 % on pins 1 to 3 of mainboard connector 1001, −5 V on pin 4 and +25 V on pin 5, with the +5 V set by trimmer 3807.[13][14]
