Philips CDI 310 Capacitor Replacement Guide

The Philips CDI 310 has electrolytic capacitors on two boards: the main board, which is the Philips CDI 350's PM06 with some sections left out, and the floppy controller board PD06. retrostuff found leaking SMD electrolytics on both in his 310, and calls leaking SMD capacitors a known weakness of this generation of players.[1] No 310 parts list has been published, so the main board list here starts from the 350's.

Main board

[edit | edit source]

Use the 350's list of main board capacitors on the Philips CDI 350 Capacitor Replacement Guide, less the positions that a 310 board does not carry. retrostuff compared his 310 board with the 350's and with a photograph of a production 310 board, and found these 350 electrolytics absent:[2]

350 electrolytics not fitted on a 310 main board
Ref Value on the 350 Circuit on the 350
CP14, CP15 47 µF 16 V +5L supply for the LCD panel
CP26, CP27 47 µF 16 V −8L supply for the LCD panel
C537, C538, C543 220 µF 16 V Speaker amplifier
C541 22 µF 16 V Speaker amplifier
C459, C460 10 µF 16 V Video 1

[2][3] That leaves 60 of the 350's 70 electrolytics, together with the six film capacitors that retrostuff also replaced on the 350. His comparison of production boards rests on one photograph, so check each position on your own board before ordering parts.[2]

Digital Video dock

[edit | edit source]

The 310 takes the same 22ER9142 dock as the 350 and 360; its four capacitors are listed on the CDI 350 guide.[4][5]

Procedure

[edit | edit source]

Take the boards out as described on the Philips CDI 310 General Maintenance and Philips CDI 350 General Maintenance pages, clean away all old electrolyte, and follow the fitting notes on the 350 guide: solder the SMD parts with an ordinary iron, observe polarity by the white dot and not the + marks, and check that taller replacements clear the covers.[3] See also Capacitor Failure Symptoms.
