The Philips CDI 660 has electrolytic capacitors on its Mono IV main board, in its 20PS307 power supply and on the smaller panels and the Digital Video cartridge. Philips' parts lists for the 660 have not been found: there is no service manual for the player in ICDIA's index, and retrostuff.org reports that no service manual exists for the 20PS307 supply.[1][2] The nearest published list is the main panel parts list in Philips' service manual for the CDI 220/80, another large Mono IV player.[3][4] It is given below as the 220/80's list. Check every position on your own board before ordering, because the professional players differ from the 220/80 in places, for example in the NVRAM circuit.[5]

Before you start

[edit | edit source]
  • Unplug the player and leave the power switch on for a while so the filter capacitors in the supply discharge. retrostuff.org warns that the large filter capacitors in CD-i supplies can give an electric shock if they are not discharged.[2]
  • Back up the NVRAM before taking the main board out.[5]
  • The 220/80 manual has sections on servicing surface-mounted parts and on handling static-sensitive components (sections 3.2 and 3.3).[3]
  • For signs of failure, see Capacitor Failure Symptoms.

The strip-down to the main board is on the Philips CDI 660 General Maintenance page.

2553, 2554, 2555, 2557, 2559 47 µF 25 V 4822 124 41527

[3] That is 29 capacitors. The parts list gives value, voltage and tolerance only, not the capacitor type, so check each part on the board.[3]

Totals by value (CDI 220/80 main panel)
Value Quantity
47 µF 25 V 14
47 µF 6.3 V 3
100 µF 25 V 3
100 µF 16 V 2
470 µF 16 V 2
1000 µF 6.3 V 2
220 µF 25 V 1
22 µF 50 V 1
1 µF 50 V 1

[3] Replace like with like: the same capacitance and at least the same voltage rating, with the polarity matched to the board marking. The grid squares on the layout drawing help to find each part.[3]

Power supply (20PS307)

[edit | edit source]

The 20PS307 is an internal multi-voltage switched-mode supply with +5 V, −5 V and +12 V outputs, fitted to the CDI 615, 660 and 670. No service manual or parts list for it has been found, so its capacitor values are not published.[2] Read the values and ratings off the parts themselves, and note them before removing anything. retrostuff.org's photographs of the board show where the fuses are: the mains fuse 1101 and the +5 V fuses 1200 and 1201.[2]

Other boards

[edit | edit source]
  • The 660's Digital Video comes from a caseless 22ER9956/40 mini DVC with the IMPEG 6.3 chipset.[6] No parts list for the cartridge has been found.
  • The 20PS307 feeds +12 V to a separate combi panel through connector 0202.[2] That panel's parts are not published either.

For the panels and the supply, the only route is to list the capacitors on your own player as you go.
