The Daewoo CPC-300 is an MSX2 home computer made by Daewoo Electronics and sold in South Korea from 1986 at ₩345,000, in a black or ivory case with the keyboard and power supply built in.[1] Its Korean label names it the 대우퍼스컴 아이큐2000 (Daewoo Perscom IQ-2000).[2] In place of an MSX-Engine it uses Daewoo's own DW64MX1 gate array, which contains the 8255 PPI, the slot select logic and the memory mapper. Versions were sold as the Talent DPC-300 in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, the AVT CPC-300 in Belgium and the Netherlands, the Wandy CPC-300 in Thailand and the Bawareth Perfect MSX2 in Arab countries.[1] The CPC-300E, a version designed for Korean schools, uses the same main board with half the RAM and without the joystick ports, light pen interface and clock.[3]

Connections
[edit | edit source]
The rear panel carries the expansion bus, the printer port, a colour or monochrome switch, an RGB socket, composite video and sound outputs, and the RF output with a channel 3 or 4 switch.[6] The machine also has two joystick ports, a light pen connector, a data recorder socket, one cartridge slot and a reset button.[1]
Hardware
[edit | edit source]
Daewoo's schematics divide the machine into a filter assembly (990A201300), a power regulator board (990A201200), a video board (990A201400) carrying an MC1377P colour encoder, a reset key assembly (990A201700) and the main logic board.[7][4] The +5 V rail comes from an L4960 switching regulator; +12 V and −12 V come from linear regulators.[7] In the photographed machine the supply board sits at the left beside the transformer, the video board stands at the top centre, and the main board is marked "MSX Version 2".[8] The MSX Resource Center records at least three versions of the main board.[3]
The main RAM sits in slot 0-2, a layout that crashes some badly written software, and the common POKE -1 fix for subslot problems freezes this machine.[1] At switch-on the machine runs the MSX-TUTOR help program; pressing SELECT goes to MSX-BASIC, and SET SYSTEM 1 skips the tutor at the next start.[1]
Documentation
[edit | edit source]Daewoo's nine-sheet circuit diagram is hosted as Daewoo CPC-300 Schematics. A project on the SBLive site documents a replacement for the DW64MX1 gate array built from an Altera EPM7128 CPLD and a separate 8255, with photographs of a CPC-300E board and its supply board.[9]
