Panasonic FS-A1WSX Capacitor Replacement Guide

From RetroTechCollection
Panasonic FS-A1WX power supply circuit (figure 8)
The FS-A1WX power unit. No WSX circuit diagram has been found.

No parts list or circuit diagram for the Panasonic FS-A1WSX has been found, so there is no published list of its electrolytic capacitors. The nearest is BABAX's parts list for the Panasonic FS-A1WX, which gives 30 electrolytics on the WX main board; it is tabulated in the Panasonic FS-A1WX Capacitor Replacement Guide.[1]

How far the WX list applies

[edit | edit source]
  • The WSX transformer carries the same part number as the WX's, DDT5U7J02Z-W, and has a four-pin connector like the WX's.[2][3] That suggests a similar supply, but no source confirms that the WSX's supply components or their positions match.
  • The WSX adds an S-video output and moves the cassette interface into the RGB connector, so its board differs from the WX's at least in those circuits.[4]
  • The PDF of BABAX's WX drawing has the internal title "FS-A1WX,FX.WSX_SCHEMATIC_04.CE3", but the drawing and parts list are of a WX board.[3]

Read the value, voltage and temperature rating off each capacitor on your own board before ordering, and use the WX list only to check what you read.

  2. ↑ Help with the FS A1WSX internal transformer, July 2004—link(accessed 2026-10-21) Niles: the WSX's internal transformer had failed; it is marked "DDT5U7J02Z-W", and its connector to the main board has four pins. NYYRIKKI: probably the same transformer as in the A1WX (round, about 11 W, he thought); he had his rewound for 220 V by a local repair shop and later used it in an A1ST, which originally has a different transformer and connector; the usual problems of the Panasonic FS series are the drive belt, the power supply and a worn keyboard membrane. Sonic_aka_T: his FS-A1GT's three-pin CN1 measured 19.2 V AC from pin 1 to each of pins 2 and 3, off load, on 120 V mains.

Parts list: IC1 CXA1145M; IC2 TC8566AF; IC3 M60014-0140FP (the drawing labels it "FX/WX gate array"); IC4 T9769A or B; IC5 YM2413; IC6 LM324; IC7 MC34063; IC10 MN1280R; IC11 to IC14, IC22 and IC23 MB81464-12; IC17 and IC18 MB834000; IC19 and IC20 MB8464-15L; IC21 and IC24 81C4256 shown in brackets as unfitted; IC28 79L12; IC29 78L12; Q11 2SA1598; D8 SB540; X1 16.00 MHz; X2 32.768 kHz; X4 21.47727 MHz; T1 transformer DDT5U7J02Z-W; V1 battery 1.5 V × 2; RY1 relay SZ-5; CN1 power in, CN6 RGB (8-pin DIN), CN7 cassette (8-pin DIN), CN13 drive. The drawing labels IC8 V9958 "MSX-VIDEO II"; the parts list gives "V9938 E-VDP-II". The list notes that ROMs and transistors can differ between production lots.
