Panasonic FS-A1ST Technical Guide
The Panasonic FS-A1ST Technical Guide is Matsushita Electric Industrial's service document for the Panasonic FS-A1ST, issued in February 1991 and written in Japanese.[1] The hosted copy is the MSX Archive scan made by HansO (Hans Otten) in 2001 from an original supplied by Bas Kornalijnslijper. The guide has 46 pages; the archive's scan has a 47th page, a handwritten covering letter, which is not part of the guide and has been left out. The guide number on the cover is partly cut off in the scan.[2]

What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The supply design and the expected supply voltages: the circuit diagram on page 22 and the pass/fail figures on page 12, used in the Panasonic FS-A1ST Troubleshooting Guide.[4][5]
- The order of dismantling and the connectors to unplug (pages 10 and 11).[6]
- The positions and Panasonic part numbers of all 46 aluminium electrolytics on the main board (pages 39 and 40), tabulated in the Panasonic FS-A1ST Capacitor Replacement Guide.[7]
- The original values of the audio parts that the FRS modification changes.[8]
- That the backup cells were not fitted at the factory (page 5).[9]
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No section on the drive's own circuit or parts; the contents list stops at the main board, LED board, switch board and keyboard.[3]
- No fault-finding chart beyond the pass/fail checks on pages 12 to 14.
- The parts list gives part numbers and descriptions but not values; the electrolytics' values have to be decoded from the Panasonic part numbers or read from the circuit diagrams.[7]
