What the manual says about the hardware

[edit | edit source]
  • The main chips are a Z-80A-compatible processor at 3.579545 MHz with one wait state in each M1 cycle, a TMS-9918A-compatible video chip, an AY-3-8910-compatible sound chip and an I-8255-compatible PPI, with a 32 KB MSX-BASIC ROM and 16 KB of RAM (資料編 page ①).
  • The video output is a 5-pin DIN socket (1 +5 V, 2 GND, 3 audio, 4 monitor video, 5 RF video) for the CF-2111 RF converter, alongside RCA sockets for composite video and sound. The cassette socket is an 8-pin DIN (1, 2, 3 and 8 GND, 4 CMTOUT, 5 CMTIN, 6 REM+, 7 REM−). The joysticks use 9-pin AMP connectors driven from the sound chip's ports, and the cartridge bus is a 50-pin, 2.54 mm edge connector with +5 V on pins 45 and 47, +12 V on 48 and −12 V on 50 (資料編 pages ⑥ to ⑧).
  • The handling precautions say to insert and remove cartridges only with the power off, not to open the slot covers by hand, and that opening a slot cover while the power is on destroys the running program. Clean the case with a dry cloth, not with thinners or benzine.
  • The start-up screen of a working machine reads "MSX BASIC version 1.0 / Copyright 1983 by Microsoft. / 12431 Bytes free / Ok" (page 5).
  • The fault table on page 26 covers no picture, no colour, unreadable or rolling pictures, a screen of random characters, a keyboard that does not respond, and cassette faults. The 2400 baud cassette speed may not load from anything other than a dedicated data recorder.
  • The RF converter CF-2111 is described as an option, bought separately (page 4).
