Philips's service manual for the Philips NMS 8280 is hosted on the wiki. It is a separate manual from the one for the NMS 8250 and NMS 8255, and it covers the 8280's video digitiser and superimpose circuits on the analogue unit.

What it settles
[edit | edit source]- The power supply's regulators, rectifiers, fuses and electrolytics (page 21, with the parts on page 47), tabulated in Philips NMS 8280 Capacitor Replacement Guide.
- The analogue unit's alignments, which the NMS 8250 and NMS 8255 do not have (pages 2 and 3).
- The control unit's front-panel parts: three variable resistors, the source select switch, the reset switch and the four LEDs (page 47).[1]
What it does not contain
[edit | edit source]- No fault-finding chart. Philips's Repair Method for the NMS 8250 and NMS 8255 is hosted (see Philips NMS 8250 Documentation), but no repair method for the NMS 8280 has been found; the MSX Archive's service manual directory, which holds this manual, has none.[2]
- The parts lists name semiconductors, coils, crystals, variable parts, film capacitors and one tantalum capacitor (C333 on the analogue unit), but no aluminium electrolytics; their values are only on the circuit diagrams.[1]
- The specification lists only the /00 and /16. The German /02 and /09 and the French /19 are not mentioned.[1][3]
- The alignment text gives the burst frequency as 4,443,619 Hz and, two lines later, as 3,443,619 Hz. See Philips NMS 8280 General Maintenance.[1]
